1984 - Crystal Services was founded in Vancouver.
1985 - The company introduced Crystal Reports, the first Windows-based report writer and gained a solid market share. To do so, the founders of Crystal began by forming strategic partnerships with others software vendors to bundle Crystal's reporting technology directly in their products.
A key turning point for the company occurred in 1992, when Microsoft bundled Crystal Reports in Microsoft Visual Basic, thereby introducing more than a million Visual Basic developers to the benefits of reporting technology. This initial partnership solidified Crystal Reports as the industry standard for reporting.
By 1994, Crystal Services had become a world leader in business intelligence and that same year it was acquired by Seagate Technology and Seagate Software was born. Seagate Info was developed in 1994 for companies looking not only access, analyze and report on corporate information but to share that information among thousands of its users.
The purchase of Holistic Systems of the United Kingdom in 1997 expanded the Seagate Software product line to include the leading edge multidimensional analysis capabilities of Seagate Holos. Seagate Holos provides a completely flexible development environment, that incorporates data mining, analytical applications, OLAP and statistical forecasting.
1999 - Seagate Software reached a new pinnacle in its company's history by launching an unprecedented industry initiative : the company began distributing millions of copies of its award-winning business intelligence software to organizations around the world, absolutely free. This direct mail and web-based initiative is designed to give organizations unprecedented access to evaluate Seagate Software's products and to help accelerate the adoption rate of business intelligence software into the corporate mainstream.
